Extra Wide Camping Cots

If you want to have lots of space to sprawl in your outdoor bed, check this selection of extra wide camping cots that are also very long and with great capacity.

There are generally two types of cots here, collapsible and folding. The former need a simple assembly and the latter you simply unfold in seconds. The folding cots are also of two types, those that become narrow but elongated when folded like an umbrella, and those that fold like a book and remain relatively large in two dimensions.

The AMENITIES DEPOT Memory Foam 6-Leg Foldable Camping Cot offers 39 inches (99 cm) to sprawl, but it is also enormously long with its 85.6 inches (217 cm) length. So this is one of the cots that are in my list of cots for tall people.

This is an impressive construction with six legs and it is also fully padded, so you do not need a separate sleeping pad. The padding inside is a memory foam and this is covered with a pleasant fleece cover.

Regarding the design, the cot is folding, so there is no assembly, you simply unfold it. Note that it is quite large when folded, but it becomes rather thin, the folded size is 39.4 x 31.5 x 11 inches (100 x 80 x 28 cm).

Yet another great feature here is its telescopic legs, and this applies to all its legs. so this is something good to have in the camp where the ground is rarely perfectly leveled. The legs can be extended in the range of 13 – 15.7 inches (23 – 40 cm). This is why I have included it also in my list of adjustable folding camping cots.

As you realize from all these features, this is a very comfortable bed that you can use in emergency situations and for sudden guests at home. As for the capacity, it is quite moderate, officially this cot supports the weight of up to 260 lb (118 kg). The weight is 22.7 lb (10.3 kg). The frame is steel.

2. Rio Gear Smart Cot XXL

Here you have a folding cot of a particular type, everything is pre-attached and you open it in seconds. It folds nicely so the included carry bag measures 42 x 9.5 x 7 inches (107 x 24 x 18 cm).

So there is no assembly, but it is also without end-bars. This means that the whole length is a useful length and you will not have pressure spots even if you are an exceptionally tall person. The dimensions are impressive, the bed measures 85 x 39 inches (216 x 99 cm).

The frame is steel and the cot is additionally stabilized with 4 locks, some of them you can see as the orange handles in the picture above. You will want to know that the capacity of this cot is also impressive 600 lb (272 kg).

The cot comes with a bonus side table shown in the picture above, and with many storage elements on the side that set it apart from some of the cots here in the list. Note also that the cot is heavy, the weight is 35.7 lb (16.2 kg). There are 6 feet and they are with plastic caps, but they are small so take care a bit if you use the cot in a floored tent.

This is one of the best-known camping cots on the market, and when you see its features you realize why this is so.  So let me start with numbers because they are so impressive.

The bed is huge, you have a width of 40 inches (101.6 cm), but see also its length which is 85 inches (216 cm). Its weight capacity is equally impressive, it can support 600 pounds (272 kg). This is why it is also in my list of cots for heavy people.

For a cot with such dimensions, the weight of 26 lb (11.8 kg) is expected. The frame is a combination of steel and aluminum, and it is obviously very strong and sturdy.

Regarding the design, the cot is in the group of military-type cots and this is a collapsible cot. This means it needs a simple assembly. In this case this only implies adding the two end-bars, everything else is pre-attached. Note that they have added a pivoting arm and this makes the setup easy, so no force is needed to put the and bars in place.

The word Titan in the name of this cot is likely related to its bed’s size that measures 85 x 40 inches (216 x 102 cm), so you realize it is not only long but also very wide and this is why it is here in the list. Its capacity is 450 lb (204 kg), and this is why the cot is included also in my list of extra heavy duty camping cots for heavy people.

Regarding the design, it could be described as close to a military-style cot with a frame, so the actual useful bed’s size is a few centimeters smaller than what is mentioned above. But the legs are not a typical military-style cot design. The end-bars you add when you want to use the cot, all other pieces are pre-attached. This is why the cot is formally in the group of collapsible cots, so it needs a simple assembly.

The packed size of the cot is 48 x 9 x 5 inches (122 x 23 x 13 cm) so it reduces to a long but very narrow tube. The cot is moderately heavy with its 20.5 pounds (9.3 kg), but this is quite typical for the cots here in the list. The frame is powder-coated aluminum with steel connectors, and the fabric is quite standard 600D polyester.

There are a few bonus storage elements on the side, and one of them is detachable so you can use it as a toiletry bag. Yet another bonus is an integrated sleeve in the head section, so here you can put some pieces of clothing and manage without a true pillow.

So here you have a super large cot from a globally known brand that was founded in 1895. You will not find many brands with such a long history, and you will also not find a cot that can match the dimensions of this cot. The bed dimensions here are 86 x 40 inches (218 x 102 cm). Observe the width that is in the focus of this text.

You probably realize from the picture that this is a very typical military-style cot with X-shaped legs and a frame. The two end-bars must be added when you want to use the cot, and this is why it formally belongs to the group of collapsible cots that needs a simple assembly. This means only adding the two end-bars, all other elements are pre-attached. The packed size is 47 x 7.5 x 5 inches (120 x 19 x 13 cm). As you realize, this is a narrow tube that will not take lots of space in the car.

The weight capacity is quite typical 300 lb (136 kg), and the cot weighs 24 lb 13 oz (11.3 kg). The fabric is 600D x 300D polyester with back-coating. There is also a bonus zippered pocket 18 x 8 inches (46 x 20 cm). This is useful for small items to have them at hand and off the floor.

It is also quite high and you can store a lot of stuff underneath it.

The cot is also with incredible weight capacity, it supports the weight of up to 550 lb (250 kg). To continue with numbers, the weight is 26.67 lb (12.1 kg), and the packed size is 48.6 x 9.1 x 4.9 in (123 x 23 x 12.5 cm).

The design is typical for a military-type cot with the frame around the bed and with those X-shaped legs. Being in such a position in the list, it is best to start with the dimensions. So this is a huge and extra-wide camping cot with a bed that measures 85 x 42.1 inches (216 x 107 cm). No doubt the cot is large enough even for extremely tall users. Such users may be heavy, but no worry, this cot is officially for users of up to 500 lb (227 kg).

Here are a few more numbers, the packed size when the cot is in its included carry bag is 43 x 8 x 6.5 inches (109 x 20 x 16.5 cm). For such a huge cot, the weight of 33.5 lb (15.2 kg) looks reasonable, but this is a heavy item and you need a car for transportation.

The structure and the design are typical for a military-style cot with a frame and with X-crossed legs. You have a pivoting arm/bar for adding the end bar, and the cot is equipped with locking bars in the corners. The frame is very durable powder-coated steel, and the fabric is 600D polyester with a water-resistant PVC coating.

What you also see in the picture above is its incredible storage capacity with many storage elements of various sizes on the side. Note that this system is removable, you have straps that attach the system to the side. But you can keep it attached, it folds around the cot when you take it down and store in the carry bag.

How to choose your extra wide camp cot

No doubt all these extra wide cots for camping are wide enough for everybody, you will notice that the width difference between the narrowest and the widest is not really big. On the other hand, all of them are long. So quite generally, the bed size cannot be an issue, no matter which of them you choose.

But there are a few other factors to bear in mind:

The weight & packed size

There are big differences here, you have seen some that are around 9 kg but there are also some over 15 kg. Perhaps even more important may be the packed size because of the previously mentioned two types.

Ease of use

This is related to the two mentioned types, collapsible and folding. The latter is definitely easier to use, but some of these folding cots are large in two dimensions when packed.

Price

There are differences here but these are quality products built to last for many years. So they are worth the investment.

Extra features

You have seen quite a number of features in these cots. I would point out padding that you have in some, so you can manage without an extra sleeping pad.
