If you are a tall person and need an outdoor bed, you will want to read this selection of extra long sleeping pads for tall people, all incredibly comfortable and reliable.
You have probably noticed that there are brands that build sleeping pads in a variety of sizes, so you can see regular, regular-wide, wide-long, etc. This holds in particular for the backpacking sleeping pads. This is useful because this allows you to choose your best fit and to avoid unnecessary weight. But even with such a variety of options, many of these pads are still too short for very tall people.
On the other hand, there are brands, like Alps Mountaineering, that usually build very long pads. This is why you have several of their pads in the collection which I have prepared for you here.
So this is a list of extra-long sleeping pads, all of them are longer than 2 meters. You have some great options here, both for camping and for the trail. There are also double-wide and solo pads in the list. Most of the pads here are insulated, but you will see some without insulation, those are suitable for summer camping or for home use.

1. KingCamp Luxury 3D Double Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad

This KingCamp Luxury 3D Double Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad measures 79.1 x 50.3 inches (201 x 128 cm) and it is 3 inches (7.6 cm) thick. Note that the packed size (L x D) is 27.6 x 10.4 inches (70.1 x 26.4 cm) which is great for a double-wide pad.
The inner is an open-cell foam and this is what makes it self-inflating and also insulating. So when you open the valves and unfold the pad, it will suck the air in. The foam traps air inside and this insulates you from the ground, so the effective R-value is 4.7. This makes the pad suitable for all seasons.
The top fabric is a 30D damp-proof and waterproof, and on the bottom it is far stronger 150D Oxford polyester. All these features affect its weight, so the pad is heavy with its 10.6 lb (4.8 kg).
There is a carry bag included, and compression straps. The two valves visible in the picture are used for both inflation and deflation so this is a fast process.
What I like:
- Comfort.
- R-value.
- Price.
What I dislike:
- Weight.
- Packed size.
2. ALPS Mountaineering Nimble Insulated Air Mat

This is an inflatable pad, and it is built in two sizes as single and double pads, and they are both insulated. The solo pad is shown above. They share the same basic features, and the only difference is the width and the related weight and packed size. Note that they also have an uninsulated solo sleeping pad
For insulation they use the TechLoft silver insulation. This is a synthetic microfiber material that provides an R-value of 3.9. They claim it is treated with antimicrobials to prevent the growth of bacteria. The fabric is a 40D nylon so this is a good denier value, but note also that this is a ripstop fabric.
Here are some numbers:
- Weight:
– Single: 2 lb 9 oz (1.16 kg).
– Double: 3 lb 12 oz (1.7 kg). - Dimensions:
– Single: 80 x 24 in (203 x 61 cm).
– Double: 80 x 53 in (203 x 135 cm). - Thickness: 3.5 – 4.5 in ( 8.9 – 11.4 cm).
- Packed size (L x D):
– Single: 15 x 6 in (38 x 15 cm).
– Double: 16 x 6 in (41 x 15 cm).
What I like:
- Comfort.
- Dimensions.
- Stuff sack.
- Incredible price.
What I dislike:
- The width of the solo pad.
3. ALPS Mountaineering Outback Self-Inflating Air Mat

This ALPS Mountaineering Outback Self-Inflating Air Mat is built in two sizes and they both are long, but its XL version is of importance for this text. See their dimensions:
- L: 78 x 27 inches (198 x 69 cm).
- XL: 80 x 32 inches (203 x 81 cm).
These are also very thick pads with 4 inches (10.2 cm) of cushion. Note that the pad is very stable so if bouncing annoys you, this is the pad to check. The corresponding weight of the two versions is as follows:
- L: 6 lb 9 oz (3 kg).
- XL: 7 lb 7 oz (3.37 kg).
So these are pads for car camping, you realize this also from their packed sizes that are (L x D) 30 x 10 inches (76 x 25 cm) for the L version, and 32 x 12 inches (81 x 30 cm) for the XL pad.
Note that the pads offer great insulation with an R-value of 8.5. So this is a camping bed suitable for all seasons. The valve is their Qwikflate design, you can rotate it to inflate and to deflate. The fabric is different on the top and on the bottom. On the top, this is a 30D elastic and super-soft fabric, but on the bottom, you have a much stronger 150D material.
What I like:
- Insulation.
- Comfort.
- Dimensions
What I dislike:
- The weight.
- The packed size.
- The price.
4. ALPS Mountaineering Vertex Air Bed

Here you have an inflatable sleeping pad for two people, and I would first mention its incredible thickness of 6 inches (15 cm). So if you are a side sleeper or just want to have the best comfort and cushion in the tent, this is a pad to consider. You will hardly find something more comfortable. This is why it is also in my list of extra thick camping pads.
What you cannot see from the outside is its coil structure that is supportive and makes the pad stable. It is constructed of durable yet lightweight and completely PVC-free fabric.
They build the pad in two sizes, the queen size, and the twin size, and the former is with the dimensions 80 x 56 inches (203 x 142 cm). It weighs 4 lb 12 oz (2.15 kg).
The pad comes with an innovative pump that operates plugged into a power source (wall or car outlet) or with its internal rechargeable battery. In view of the pad’s thickness this is a tool you need, and the pump indeed quickly inflates/deflates the pad. You also have a convenient carry bag included.
What I like:
- Thickness.
- Comfort.
- Size.
- State-of-the-art rechargeable pump.
What I dislike:
- Not really light enough for the trail.
5. Nemo Roamer Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad

This NEMO Roamer Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad is also built in two different sizes, so you have a long-wide (LW) and extra long-wide (XLW). The dimensions are 76 x 25 inches (193 x 64 cm) and 80 x 30 inches (203 x 76 cm), respectively. So it is here for all the good reasons.
The weight of the two versions is 4 lb (1.8 kg) and 5 lb 4 oz (2.38 kg), and the packed size is impressive (L x D) 12 x 8.5 inches (30 x 22 cm) for LW, and it is 15 x 10.5 inches (38 x 26 cm) for the XLW pad.
Here you have 4 inches (10.2 cm) of plush and pleasant foam underneath you. This is an incredibly comfortable outdoor bed and its official temperature rating is -30 F (-34 C). In terms of the R-value, this should be around 7.
The top and bottom polyester materials have different denier values, 50D and 75D, respectively. The pad is designed with completely vertical sides. With such side walls, you can attach two pads together, there are also toggles and loops for this purpose.
As for the inflation system, the pad comes with dual valves, and this is their Laylow multivalve system with pressure micro-adjustment. Note that you have Nemo’s lifetime warranty. A stuff sack is also included.
What I like:
- Thickness.
- Comfort.
- Valves system.
What I dislike:
- The price.
6. QOMOTOP Ultra Thick Self-Inflating Camping Mattress

This pad measures 80 x 28 inches (203 x 71 cm), and the name contains the words Ultra Thick that is an official part of the name. So you have 4 inches (10.2 cm) and this is enough for any sort of sleepers. But I would not describe it as really ultra-thick.
The weight is 7.5 pounds (3.5 kg) and the packed size is (L x D) 30 x 8 inches (76 x 20 cm). Note that they also have a double-wide version, so just to know that it weighs 13.6 lb (6.2 kg) and its dimensions are 80 x 52 inches (203 x 132 cm). The pad is with PU foam inside, and the shell is a durable tricot with a TPU film that provides tightness. They claim it is environmentally friendly and non-toxic.
The R-value is a huge 9.5. You will probably never need more, this R-value roughly corresponds to -54 F (-48 C). You will want to know that its stuff sack doubles as an inflation sack. The pad comes with a patented valve design that is a rotary type, and this means that you use the same valves for inflation and deflation. You switch the mode by simply rotating the valve.
What I like:
- Thickness.
- Comfort.
- Valves system.
- Length.
What I dislike:
- The weight.
- The packed size.
7. Therm-a-Rest MondoKing 3D Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad

This Therm-a-Rest MondoKing 3D Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad exists in two different sizes, L and XXL, and their dimensions are 77 x 25 inches (196 x 63 cm) and 80 x 30 inches (203 x 76 cm).
The weight of the corresponding pads is 4 lb 6 oz (1.99 kg) and 5 lb 8 oz (2.5 kg). Their packed dimensions are (L x D) 26 x 10.3 inches (66 x 26 cm) and 31 x 10.3 inches (70 x 26 cm).
The pad offers 4.25 inches (11 cm) of cushion underneath you. With the foam and air inside you have an effective R-value of 7. So this is a true 4-season sleeping pad.
The top fabric is a 50D polyester knit and the bottom is 75D polyester. The inner is polyurethane foam. You realize from the picture that the sides are made vertical. They claim this gives around 20% more effective usable surface. This is convenient when you use two of such pads side by side, they will fit nicely.
You have a dual two-way valve system, it is very easy to use and you can regulate and fine-tune the thickness of the pad. A stuff sack is included, and the pad is with a limited lifetime warranty.
What I like:
- Thickness.
- Comfort.
What I dislike:
- The price.
- The packed size.
8. ALPS Mountaineering Oasis Air Pad

This pad is impressive in every possible way. Its dimensions are 80.5 x 31 inches (204 x 79 cm) so it is both wide and extra long. But see also its thickness which is 6.5 inches (16.5 cm). On the other hand, this is also an incredibly affordable pad.
The pad is inflatable, and it comes with a built-in pump. You have an inflation valve and a separate deflation valve. It is also built from a very durable material, so you have a high denier value of 75D and this is a nylon ripstop fabric. Inside you have an inner coil system that gives it some rigidity and makes it very stable.
The weight is 2 lb 12 oz (1.25 kg) and the packed size is 13 x 13 x 5 inches (33 x 33 x 13 cm). You get a limited lifetime warranty with this pad.
What I like:

- Built-in pump.
- Price.
What I dislike:
- No insulation.
- Not easy to inflate.
Final thoughts
So I did my best to compose this list of extra long sleeping pads for tall people, and it is unlikely you will find something longer on the market. But I shall be adding new pads whenever I notice any that is long enough to be included here. So stay tuned.
These are all very long pads but the length may not be the only important feature. So here are some tips if you are still undecided.
The width
There are some really wide pads here in the list so if you are a big person and need space to sprawl, keep an eye on the width. As you have seen, there are double-wide pads here as well. So if this is about car camping, use such a pad.
Insulation
For summer camping you do not need an insulated pad. Even air in the pad gives some insulation, you can expect the R-value of 0.8 and more from the air alone, and this is completely enough for such an environment.
But if this is about cold weather use, check some of the insulated pads here, you have great options, some are for the harshest possible winter conditions. The insulation is expressed through R-value, so the higher the number the better.
Thickness
There are no thin pads here in the list, but there are still differences by about a factor 2 or more from the thinnest to the thickest. So you might want to keep an eye on this parameter.
Editor’s Choice pad
I have decided to put forward the pad shown below. It is incredibly large and incredibly thick, and its price is also beyond comparison.
