So what do we mean by extra-long camping cot
The phrase ‘extra-long camp cots’ here implies camping cots that are 85 inches (216 cm) long or longer, so imagine. Those are handpicked from many tens of cots that we have in our separate sites, so we have a complete overview of what is available on the market and you can be sure you will not find anything that can match these giants.
Our review of extra-long camping cots for tall people
The cots are ordered by length from shorter to longer:
1. Browning Camping Titan Cot XP
The word Titan in the name of this cot is very appropriate, the bed measures 85 x 40 inches (216 x 102 cm), so you realize it is not only long but also very wide. But see its capacity which is 450 lb (204 kg), this is why the cot is included also in my list of extra heavy duty camping cots for heavy people.
This is a military-style cot with the frame, so you have a few centimeters less in its actual useful length, there are end-bars in place. These end-bars you add when you want to use the cot, all other pieces are pre-attached. This is why the cot is formally in the group of collapsible cots, which means it needs a simple assembly.
The packed size is 48 x 9 x 5 inches (122 x 23 x 13 cm) so you realize it is quite a long tube when it is in its carry bag. The cot is moderately heavy with its 20.5 pounds (9.3 kg), but you will see some much heavier cots here in the list. The frame is powder-coated aluminum with steel connectors, and the fabric is quite standard 600D polyester.
The storage elements on the side are a bonus, one of them is detachable and you can use it as a toiletry bag. Yet another bonus is an integrated sleeve in the head section, so here you can put some pieces of clothing and manage without a true pillow.
2. Rio Gear Smart Cot XXL
This cot may look like a standard military-style outdoor bed, but this is not so. The important difference is that there are no end-bars here. This means you will not have pressure spots even if you are an exceptionally tall person. So just see its dimensions to realize what you have, the bed measures 85 x 39 inches (216 x 99 cm).
This is a pure folding cot so everything is pre-attached and you simply open it in seconds. It folds nicely so the included carry bag measures 42 x 9.5 x 7 inches (107 x 24 x 18 cm).
The frame is steel and the cot is additionally stabilized with 4 locks, you can see them as the orange handles in the picture above. So the capacity of this cot is also impressive 600 lb (272 kg).
It comes with a bonus side table and many storage elements on the side that set it apart from the other cots here. The weight is 35.7 lb (16.2 kg) so clearly, this is a heavy item. Note that the feet are with plastic caps, but they are generally small so take care a bit if you use it in a floored tent. I have included this cot also to my list of extra wide camping cots.
3. TETON Sports Outfitter XXL Camp Cot
I would start with numbers here because this cot is so impressive when you see them all. So the bed is huge, it measures 85 x 40 inches (216 x 101.6 cm), and its weight capacity is equally impressive, it can support 600 pounds (272 kg). For such a size, the weight of 26 lb (11.8 kg) is expected, you have a frame that is a combination of steel and aluminum, it is obviously very strong and sturdy.
The cot is in the group of military-type cots and this is a collapsible cot. In this case this only implies adding the two end-bars, everything else is pre-attached. They have added a pivoting arm and this makes the setup easy. When you add the second end-bar, you do not have to pull it out, as you know in cots of this type this may require a bit of force. With the pivoting arm, this is very easy, you just press it down and it will make a loop motion and lock in place.
4. AMENITIES DEPOT Memory Foam 6-Leg Foldable Camping Cot
This AMENITIES DEPOT Memory Foam 6-Leg Foldable Camping Cot is both extra long and extra wide, and this means that the bed is 85.6 x 39 inches (217 x 99 cm). So this is an impressive construction but there is more. You probably realize from the picture that it is also a padded cot, so you do not need a separate sleeping pad.
The design is folding, there is no assembly, you simply unfold it. The dimensions when packed are not its best features, but it becomes rather thin, the folded size is 39.4 x 31.5 x 11 inches (100 x 80 x 28 cm). Yet another useful feature is its telescopic legs, so this is something good to have in the camp where the ground is rarely perfectly leveled. They can be extended in the range of 13 – 15.7 inches (23 – 40 cm).
This is a very comfortable bed that you can use in emergency situations and also at home for sudden guests. As for the capacity, it is quite moderate, officially this cot supports the weight of up to 260 lb (118 kg). The weight is 22.7 lb (10.3 kg). The frame is steel and the padding inside is a memory foam and this is covered with a pleasant fleece cover.
5. Eureka Camping Cot Extra Large
Did you know that the Eureka brand (or Eureka! as they officially write) has been around since 1895? There are no many outdoor brands with such an incredible history. So here you have one of their outdoor items, and this is one of the longest and the largest cots on the market. The bed dimensions are 86 x 40 inches (218 x 102 cm).
If you are familiar with cots, you realize from the picture that this is a very typical military-style cot with X-shaped legs and a frame. Formally, it belongs to the group of collapsible cots, and this means only adding the two end-bars, all other elements are pre-attached. So the packed size is not bad, its carry bag with a shoulder strap measures 47 x 7.5 x 5 inches (120 x 19 x 13 cm).
The capacity is quite typical, 300 lb (136 kg), and the weight is 24 lb 13 oz (11.3 kg). The fabric is 600D x 300D polyester with back-coating. There is also a bonus zippered pocket 18 x 8 inches (46 x 20 cm) for small items to have them at hand and off the floor.
6. Slumberjack Big Lux Cot
You will see this cot sometimes under the name Slumberjack Big XL Cot, Slumberjack Big Cot, or as given in the title. This is the same item just to know, and in any case it is extremely large. The dimensions are (L x W x H) 86 x 40 x 20 inches (218 x 102 x 51 cm), and the capacity is also enormous, it supports up to 500 pounds (227 kg), so you realize this is a cot for very big users. It is also quite high and you can store a lot of stuff underneath it.
The cot could be described as a military-style, with the frame around, and this means it is collapsible so it requires a simple assembly. As usual with such cots, this only means adding the end bars, all the rest is ready and pre-attached. They have stabilized it with extra locking bars underneath the bed. The frame is steel and the fabric is a 600D x 300D polyester. The weight is 35 lb (16 kg), bear this in mind.
7. ALPS Mountaineering Escalade Cot
As of the moment of writing this text, this Escalade Cot is the longest cot on the market, its dimensions are 90 x 35 inches (229 x 89 cm). But have a look also at the picture above, this cot has no end-bars. This means that its incredible length is the true useful length. Note also that they build it in two sizes, XL and L, so the numbers shown above are for the size XL.
Yet another great feature here is that this is a pure folding cot, and this means there is no assembly, all the elements visible in the picture are pre-attached, so you simply open it in a couple of seconds. It packs nicely in its included carry bat, so you have a bit elongated tube that measures 48 x 9 x 5 inches (122 x 23 x 13 cm).
For such a size, the cot is moderately heavy, the weight is 24 lb (10.9 kg), and its official capacity is 325 lb (147 kg). All metal parts are powder-coated aluminum. There are several support bars for stability, the legs at the two ends are angled outwards for extra stability and they have also added locking bars that give extra support and stabilize the legs.
You will want to know that the cot is tall, you have 20 inches (51 cm) clearance and this is lots of space to store the gear. The feet are narrow so it is best to add something for floor protection.
How to choose your camp cot for tall people
This is about long cots so one could simply go for the longest that is available. But all of these cots are gigantic so the length should not be an issue with any of them. There are other features to consider, and the most important of them include:
- Width.
- Capacity.
- Ease of use.
- Packed size.
- Weight.
There are differences in the width of these cots, and this is for 13 cm or so. Therefore it is important to check this in particular if you are a side sleeper. The same holds for capacity, there are differences, but you can also consult our separate text with extra heavy duty camping cots for heavy people.
Regarding ease of use, the cots in the list belong to various types. In general, they are either collapsible (and this means they need a simple assembly), or folding that need no assembly and you simply spread them.
The packed size also depends on the folding/collapsible differences. So collapsible cots normally pack better and remain long in one dimension only when packed. But there are also folding cots with the same feature, so check carefully. The weight differences can be substantial, so you might want to check this. Though these are all camping cots for places with a car access, this is why the weight may be of secondary importance.
