Note that I have done my best to present a variety of types, otherwise the list might look quite different. I feel that there is no much sense in giving a list of cots built in the same style. This is just in case you know some cot that deserves to be here but it is not included. So the focus is on diversity. I assure you that I have a complete overview of what is available on the market, and this list is composed of the cots that are handpicked from hundreds of cots out there.

1. Bushtec Adventure Camping Cot Sierra 440

This cot is full of great features, but I would start with the number in the name, so this is its official capacity 440 lb (200 kg). The bed size is 82 x 34 inches (208 x 86 cm), so if you are a tall person this is the cot to consider. The weight is 29 lb (13.2 kg) and the packed size is 33 x 32 x 10 inches (84 x 81 x 25 cm).

You realize, it is heavy and this is also one of the cots that remain large in two dimensions when packed, so this is a car camping cot. But note that this is a purely folding cot, there is no assembly of any kind, you simply open it.

What sets it apart from the crowd is also its padding, so you do not need an extra sleeping pad with such a cot. This is not all, the cot is with extendable legs, they can be extended up to 22 inches (56 cm) at the head side and up to 16 inches (41 cm) at the foot side. You can use it as a lounger and keep the backrest at several angles. This is why I have included it also in my list of adjustable folding camping cots.

I would point out also its feet design, they are very wide, pivoting, and floor-friendly, so you can use it in floored tents without problems. The frame is steel, and the fabric is a ripstop, waterproof, fire retardant, and UV protected canvas, with padding inside. The attachment to the frame is through bungee cords, so the bed adjusts easily to your body shape.

2. DESERT WALKER Camping Cot with extendable legs

This DESERT WALKER Camping Cot is quite different from all the other cots here in the list. There are several features that make it so different. First, this is a cot with extendable legs, so you can use it in very low tents, and these extensions are removable. Second, this is a backpack portable cot, lightweight, and with a great packed size. So the weight is 4.9/5.6 lb (2.23/2.56 kg) when used without/with legs extensions, and the packed size is (L x D) 20 x 5.5 inches (50 x 14 cm).

The cot is completely collapsible, and this also means that it needs assembly, but this is easily done and without any extra tools. It is here because of its impressive capacity which is 441 lb (200 kg). Note that the mentioned legs extensions are not included, they must be ordered separately.

The bed’s size is less impressive, you have 78.3 x 26 inches (190 x 66 cm), so it is a bit narrow, but note that there are no end-bars here, so the mentioned length is the true useful length.

3. Browning Camping Titan Cot XP

This Browning Camping Titan Cot XP is with a frame typical for military-style camping cots, but legs design is quite different from such cots. The cot is among the largest on the market with its bed’s size of 85 x 40 inches (216 x 102 cm), and with this, you have an appropriate capacity of 450 lb (204 kg). So if you need an outdoor cot for a large and heavy person this is it.

They build it in two sizes, XL and L. It is formally in the group of collapsible cots, so it packs to a narrow but long tube that measures 48 x 9 x 5 inches (122 x 23 x 13 cm). Only the two end-bars have to be added when you unfold the cot. Note that the cot is quite heavy with its 20.5 pounds (9.3 kg) so this is a car camping item.

The picture above reveals that it comes with bonus storage elements on the side, so you have storage pouches and one of them is detachable and you can use it as a toiletry bag. A carry bag is also included. There is also an integrated sleeve in the head section, for a pillow, so you can put some pieces of clothing and manage without a true pillow. The frame is a powder-coated aluminum with steel connectors, and the fabric is quite standard 600D polyester.

4. StanSport Heavy Duty One-Step Camp Cot

The words ‘One-Step’ in the name indicate the fact that this is a pure folding cot so it is extremely easy to use, you open it and close it in one simple move, it opens like an umbrella. So the packed size is excellent, it is an elongated tube when packed in its included carry bag.

Yet another great feature here is its integrated head incline. Note also that there is a zippered pocket in this section, so you can add some pieces of clothing or its carry bag and you do not need a pillow. To realize what the ‘Heavy Duty’ words in the name mean, note that its official weight capacity is 450 lb (204 kg), so now you realize why it is here.

This is a huge cot with dimensions 80 x 32 inches (203 x 81 cm), and from the picture above you can see that there are no end bars, so this is all true useful length without pressure spots. The feet are huge and this is a floor-friendly design, you can use this cot without extra protection in floored family camping tents. The weight is 23 lb (10.43 kg).

5. Disc-O-Bed Large With Organizers

Here you have something totally unique on the market, this structure includes two cots and you can use them as a bunk-cot for two people, separately as two single cots or a double cot, and as banks. So this is a versatile 4-in-1 system.

It is here because the capacity of each of the cots is 500 lb (227 kg) per single cot. This is a collapsible system so it needs assembly, and setup time is not its best feature, plan around 30 minutes or so. But you do not need any tool for this.

The packed size for both is 34 x 16 x 11 inches (86.4 x 40.6 x 27.9 cm), but the cots indeed pack into their separate bags. Each bag separately is around 34 x 16 x 5 inches. The total weight of both is 63 lb (29 kg).

This is a nice bunk structure to use in cabin-style tents with steep and tall walls, you will save lots of floor space. The size of the bed is 81.75 x 32.25 inches (208 x 82 cm) so it is very long and quite wide as well.

6. Coleman Big-N-Tall Cot

The Coleman Big-N-Tall Cot is a very typical military-style cot with its frame and its X-shaped legs. No doubt it is among the heaviest cots on the market with its 35.2 lb (16 kg) of weight, but see its size and capacity and you might look at its weight from a bit different perspective. So the bed is 84 x 35 inches (213 x 89 cm), and the capacity is 600 lb (272 kg). All metal parts are steel, so this explains the weight.

The end-bars are longer on one side as you realize from the picture above, so this is to have enough space to grab it when you attach it to the frame, a bit of force is needed to do this. This is a collapsible cot and it packs down to 43.3 x 11 x 5.5 inches (110 x 28 x 13 cm), and clearly you need a car for transportation. Note that it comes with a wheeled carry bag, you will need it in view of its weight.

The cot is quite tall, and this allows for lots of space underneath the cot to store your gear. The legs are with nicely designed feet, but you will want to add some extra protection if you use it in a floored tent and on soft ground.

7. Guide Gear XL Magnum Cot

This Guide Gear XL Magnum Cot is in this exclusive group because of its 600 lb (272 kg) capacity. But see also its impressive bed dimensions 84 x 39 inches (213 x 99 cm). So this is a cot suitable for very heavy and very tall people as well. It is built as a military-style cot with a full frame around the bed, but the legs are quite specific with those support elements.

Similar to military-type cots, it needs a simple assembly, and this only implies adding the two end-bars, everything else is pre-attached. It comes with a nicely designed carry bag, and the packed size is 45 x 9 x 7 inches (114 x 23 x 18 cm). This together with its weight which is 31.3 lb (14.2 kg), tells you that you need a car for transportation, and you would not want to carry this cot anywhere.

This cot is taller than many others in the list, you have 20 inches (51 cm) from the ground. Elderly users might like to know this, and this also means that you have a huge volume underneath the cot to store your camping gear. The feet are with caps, but make sure to add some protection in a floored tent.

8. TETON Sports Outfitter XXL Camp Cot

I am pretty sure that this is the best-known camping cot on the market. It has been around for many years already, but recently they have added a small but important modification, and this is a pivoting arm. You can see it as the tiny red part in the picture above.

Namely, this is a military-style camping cot with a pre-attached frame, only the two end-bars have to be added after you unfold the cot. So adding the first end-bar is easy, but with the second end-bar there will be some tension in the fabric and this needs a bit of force. This is why they have added this pivoting arm that makes setup extremely easy and without force. The purpose is that you do not have to pull it out against the fabric tension, instead of this you just press it down and it will make a loop motion and lock in place.

Observe that this is a heavy item, it weighs 26 lb (11.8 kg), so this is for car camping. But the weight looks very much justified when you realize that i) this is a huge cot that measures 85 x 40 inches (216 x 101.6 cm), and ii) its weight capacity is up to 600 pounds (272 kg). The frame is a combination of steel and aluminum, very strong and sturdy. This cot is also in my list of extra wide camping cots.

9. Texsport First Gear Extra Large Camp Cot

This Texsport First Gear Extra Large Camp Cot is also known under the name Mammoth XL Cot, and it is different from many of the cots here because this is a purely folding cot. So there is no assembly, all the elements that you see in the picture are pre-attached to each other, you simply unfold it in a couple of seconds.

This is an impressive cot when you see its numbers, it is very long with a bed size of 81 x 30 inches (206 x 76 cm) and this makes it suitable for very tall people. Note that there are no end-bars here, so this makes it very different from the military-type cots here in the list. The capacity is huge, it supports up to 600 pounds (272 kg).

The packed size is not bad at all, its carry bag measures 40 x 7 x 6 inches (102 x 18 x 15 cm), and it weighs 23 lb (10.4 kg). So this is a camping cot for places with car access. The frame is heavy-duty powder-coated steel. and the fabric is a 600 denier PVC coated polyester.

How to choose

So this was my list of heavy-duty cots for camping, and after seeing them all, hopefully, you realize that this is a list with a variety of designs. Regarding the capacity which is in-focus here, no doubt any of the cots will do the job no matter how heavy a user can be, they are all strong enough to support even the heaviest sumo wrestlers.

But there are significant differences in the length and also in the bed width. So if you are a very tall person or simply want to have space to sprawl, make sure that you choose the size for you, you have numbers given with every cot in the list.

There are also big differences in weight. Now, if this is about car camping this is more or less immaterial. But if you need a cot to carry attached to the pack, you have some options here.

Do not forget the ease of use. I have mentioned with every cot how it is used, so there are differences. Some need assembly and this can imply just adding two end-bars, or set the complete cot up, but some are fully folding cots that you open or close in seconds.
