Exped Double Sleeping Pads

Exped Double Sleeping Pads are a synonym for comfort, reliability, and quality, and here you have the best of what they have on the market for the coming season.

Exped is a globally known outdoor brand, and they have been around for decades. They build lots of outdoor stuff, but I am sure they are best known for the sleeping pads. Exped sleeping pads are incredibly comfortable, they build them in single and double sizes, and you can also find them in a variety of sub-sizes regarding the length and width.

The focus here is on double-wide sleeping pads suitable for two adults, for a parent with a kid, and also for solo users who simply want space to sprawl.

Exped sleeping pads are always thick enough to be suitable for every type of sleepers. In fact, some of the thickest sleeping pads on the market are from this brand. So how thick they are really? Well, here in the list you will see examples that are in the range of 7- 15 cm.

My list of Exped double wide sleeping pads

The pads in the list are ordered by thickness from less thick to thicker:

Note that you have inflatable and self-inflating pads, and both types are represented here. The former may be light enough to be carried on the trail.

I hope you will love the products I present below, I choose only the best that is on the market, those that I can fully recommend, and present them here in the site. 1. Exped AirMat HL Duo Inflatable Sleeping Pad

Exped AirMat HL Duo Inflatable Sleeping Pad.
Exped AirMat HL Duo Inflatable Sleeping Pad.

This inflatable sleeping pad is available in M and LW sizes. Both of them are light and compact enough to be carried on the trail. So the weight and packed size of this pad are everything but ordinary. As you see from the picture, this is a classic design with longitudinal baffles.

The M size weighs only 1.54 lb (700 g),  and its dimensions are 72 x 41.3/32.3 inches (183 x 105/82 cm). So this is a trimmed pad in the feet area and it is generally quite narrow for two adults. But it may be wide enough for a parent and a kid. It is light enough to be used on the trail even as a solo pad. The pad is 2.76 inches (7 cm) thick.

You have thin materials here. The shell is a 20D polyester with a TPU polyether film laminate, hydrolysis resistant, and Oeko-Tex 100 certified. The temperature rating is 46 °F (8 °C), or in terms of R-value, this is around 1.3. Note that the rating is official ASTM F3340-18. So this is a pad for the warmer part of the year, for up to two seasons maximum.

The pad packs small, the packed size is impressive (L x D) 7.9 x 4.7 inches (20 x 12 cm). Clearly, you can transport it in every possible way. You will want to know that it comes with an impressive 5-year warranty.

What I like:

  • Weight.
  • Packed size.
  • Warranty.

What I dislike:

  • The width.
  • The price.

2. Exped DeepSleep Mat 7.5 Duo Sleeping Pad

Exped DeepSleep Mat 7.5 Duo Sleeping Pad.
Exped DeepSleep Mat 7.5 Duo Sleeping Pad.

This pad is self-inflating and they build it in two sizes M and LW. Here are some numbers you might want to see:

  • Weight:
    – M: 7 lb 4 oz (3.29 kg).
    – LW: 9 lb 14 oz (4.48 kg).
  • Dimensions (L x W):
    – M: 72 x 40.9 in (183 x 104 cm).
    – LW: 77.6 x 52 in (197 x 132 cm).
  • Thickness: 3 in (7.6 cm).
  • Packed size (L x D):
    – M: 22 x 11 in (56 x 28 cm).
    – LW: 27.5 x 12 in (70 x 30 cm).

So the thickness is moderate but you have a very high R-value of 8.5. This is equivalent to the temperature of -50.8 °F (-46 C), so the pad is suitable for any weather situation.

The top fabric is a durable 75D micro brushed polyester with a TPU polyether film laminate, it is a quiet material, hydrolysis resistant, and Oeko-Tex 100 certified. They give a 5-year warranty for this pad.

What I like:

  • Comfort.
  • Insulation.
  • Size.

What I dislike:

  • The price.

3. Exped MegaMat Duo 10 Insulated Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad

Exped MegaMat Duo 10 Insulated Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad.
Exped MegaMat Duo 10 Insulated Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad.

This is a self-inflating and insulating sleeping pad. The number 10 in the name is its thickness in centimeters, and this means 3.9 inches. The inner material is an open-cell PU foam Oekotex 100 certified. When you want to use it, simply unfold the pad and open the valves, and it will self-inflate. If this is not enough there is a mini-pump included in the package.

The foam insulates you properly, you have an R-value of 9.5 and this is roughly equivalent to extreme temperatures of -54 °F (-48 °C). So the pad can be used in any weather conditions.

This is a double-wide pad of course and this is why it is here, the dimensions are 77.6 x 52 inches (197 x 132 cm). They build it in two sizes, medium, and long-wide, and the numbers given here are for the larger pad. It weighs 163.3 oz (4.63 kg).

To continue with numbers, the packed size of this pad is 27.6 x 11.8 inches (70 x 30 cm). All in all, this is a car camping pad built for comfort and protection. The external fabric is durable, you have a 50D polyester on the top and 75D on the bottom. It comes with a 5-year warranty.

What I like:

  • Comfort.
  • Insulation
  • Size.
  • Warranty.

What I dislike:

  • The weight.
  • The packed size.

4. Exped MegaMat Max 15 Duo Sleeping Pad

Exped MegaMat Max 15 Duo Sleeping Pad.
Exped MegaMat Max 15 Duo Sleeping Pad.

Here you have a very thick sleeping pad and this is described by the number 15 in the official name. So you have 5.9 inches (15 cm) of cushion. The insulation is an open cell 16 kg/m² PU foam, Oekotex 100 certified and it provides an impressive R-value of 10.6. This is around -70.6 °F (-57 °C), and this is based on the new rating system ASTM F3340-18, so it is very reliable. Therefore the pad can be used in any weather conditions.

The pad is self-inflating so the shell fabric is air-tight and properly glued. They used a high-frequency welding and a proprietary durable lamination. The same Oekotex 100 certification applies to the fabric as well, and this is a 50D nylon on the top and a 75D polyester on the bottom, both hydrolysis resistant.

So you realize these are durable and reliable materials, yet very soft and with a stretch-knit surface that provides slip-resistance and next-to-skin comfort. This is a reliable brand so here too you have a 5-year warranty. Note also that it comes with a mini-pump included.

The name suggests impressive dimensions, and this means 77.6 x 52 inches (197 x 132 cm). The weight is 216.8 oz (6.15 kg), and its packed size is (L x D) 29.5 x 13.8 inches (75 x 35 cm). They also have a single version, and it is in my list of extra thick camping pads.

What I like:

  • Thickness.
  • Comfort.
  • Great R-value.
  • Extraordinary warranty.

What I dislike:

  • The weight.
  • The packed size.
  • The price

Final thoughts

So this was my list of the best Exped Double Sleeping Pads and I hope you realize how extraordinary each of these pads is. Most of them are for basecamp use and for car camping, and this means they are quite heavy and bulky. But this also means you have the best possible insulation, comfort, and cushion. This is reflected in their high R-values.

Yet another detail that must be pointed out is the great warranty that you have with any of these pads. This is why they are expensive, but they are reliable and built to serve you for many years. They are definitely worth the investment.
