Here I have made a selection of the best Coleman 6 person camping tents suitable for family camping, and I did my best to include a variety of designs and useful features.

Coleman builds tents in practically all sizes and shapes. But their 6-person group contains more tents than any other, and this implies also a variety of useful and sometimes unique features.

For example, Coleman 6-person family camping tents built for the EU market are much larger than those built for the US area. They can be huge, and some of them can easily accommodate 10-12 people if necessary. One of their best representatives is included here.

Regarding features, they make instant tents, dark rest tents, inflatable tents, tents with a screen room, tents with a hinged door, etc. So I have tried to collect the best tents with the mentioned features, and you have them here in the list.

My list of the best Coleman 6 person family camping tents

The tents in the list are ordered by the floor area, from smaller to larger:

The list is short, but I shall point out why each of the tents is included here.

I hope you will love the products I present below, I choose only the best that is on the market, those that I can fully recommend, and present them here in the site. 1. Coleman 6-Person Connectable Tent

Coleman 6-Person Connectable Tent.
Coleman 6-Person Connectable Tent.

This tent is a cabin type, but the main reason for adding it here in the list is its unique connecting design. So this is one of the best examples of connectable tents on the market.

The picture shows the 6-person tent connected to a smaller tent from the same series. There are 3 openings where you can attach such three 3-person tents or other 6-person tents.

Of course, you can use the 6-person tent alone, and in this case these openings are just beautifully designed windows/doors, with mesh and panels, and they are with small brims above so you have dry entry points. This means that you have 4 doors in total.

The tent is fully freestanding, and this is also their fast-pitch design with a hub element. One E-cable port is available as well. The tent is ventilated, and there are several vents on the roof.

The frame is a combination of steel legs and fiberglass roof poles. There are also 4 separate short fiberglass brim poles. As for the numbers, the weight is 28 lb (12.7 kg), the dimensions are 144 x 120 inches (366 x 305 cm), and the area is 90.4 ft² (8.4 m²). The peak height is impressive 76 inches (193 cm). This tent is included also in my list of best Coleman 6 person cabin tents.

Please see more in this video:

What I like:

  • Extremely easy to use.
  • Freestanding.
  • Very good price.

What I dislike:

  • Heavy.

2. Coleman 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent

Coleman 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent.
Coleman 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent.

This tent is a typical cabin type as you realize from the picture. The walls are straight and angled. It has been on the market for years, incredibly popular and affordable. But the main reason for including it here in the list is its instant setup. You can have it ready literally in a minute.

One more reason for such an easy setup is its single-layer design. There is no separate fly, it is integrated in the roof. This all is pre-attached to the frame, so you just extend its telescopic poles.

The tent is also fully freestanding, and you have views on all sides, there is one door shown in the picture. The windows have mesh and zippered panels for full protection. The tent is tall, the peak height is 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m).

The dimensions are 10 x 9 ft (3.05 x 2.74 m), and the overall area is 90 ft² (8.4 m²). The packed size (L x D) is around 48 x 9 inches (122 x 23 cm), and the weight is 24.9 lb (11.3 kg). This tent is also in my list of best 6 person instant cabin tents.

What I like:

  • Extremely easy to use.
  • Freestanding.
  • Very good price.

What I dislike:

  • No floor vents.
  • Long when packed.
  • Heavy.

3. Coleman Elite Sundome Tent with LED Light System

Coleman Elite Sundome Tent with LED Light System.
Coleman Elite Sundome Tent with LED Light System.

This tent is a representative of Coleman’s dome shaped tents. There are only two main fiberglass X-crossed poles plus two small brow poles that create brims on the front and on the back. As you see from the picture, it has a partial coverage fly which attaches to the frame. Because of this the tent is fully freestanding.

It may look small but the floor area is quite good, you have no less than 120 ft² (11 m²), and official capacity is 6 people. But this is a tent with some extra features as well. So you can see one in the picture, and this is its hinged door. Dome-type tents with such a door are truly rare.

There is more. The tent comes with an integrated LED light system. This includes an overhead light and a wall switch that allows you to select between high, low and nightlight modes.

This all is CPX 6 compatible and it is powered by an included battery cartridge with 4 D-batteries. You will have 100, 42, and 5 lumens at high, low, and nightlight modes. The corresponding runtime for the three levels are 26, 65, and 81 hours.

There is an e-port as well. The weight is 20 lb (9.1 kg), the base size is 12 x 10 ft (366 x 305 cm), and the packed size is 30 x 11 x 8 inches (76 x 28 x 20 cm).

What I like:

  • The door.
  • The LED light system.
  • The floor area size.

What I dislike:

  • Fiberglass poles.

4. Coleman Skydome 6 Person Tent with Screen Room

Coleman Skydome 6 Person Tent.
Coleman Skydome 6 Person Tent.

This tent is an extended-dome type of a particular type. They build it also as a 4 person and as an 8-person tent, and they all share the same features.

The extended feature is due to its extra loop on the front. But the legs are straight, so the tent is almost like a cabin type structure. They claim this design offers 20% more volume than the usual dome tents.

They have many extended dome tents, so the reason for including this one is its true 2-room structure. But even this is not all, the front room is with mesh and with panels on all the sides. This means it can be used as a screen room when the sky is clear, and here you are fully protected from insects. Its floor is fully sewn-in and sealed everywhere.

There is also a back room which is fully protected under the fly and you can use it as a bedroom. The peak height is 6 ft (183 cm).

They claim that the tent has been tested to withstand up to 35 mph winds. The poles are a fiberglass, and the tent features their standard WeatherTec system. This includes a tub-like floor and patented welded corners, inverted seams and taped seams on rainfly and tent body. There is an E-cable port.

The base measures 12.5 x 10 ft, so this means you have 125 ft² (11.6 m²). The weight is 19.34 lb (9.89 kg). In this video you can see more:

What I like:

  • The screen room.
  • Overall covered space.

What I dislike:

  • Fiberglass poles.

5. Coleman Valdes Deluxe 6 XL Air BlackOut Tent

Coleman Valdes Deluxe 6 XL Air BlackOut Tent.
Coleman Valdes Deluxe 6 XL Air BlackOut Tent.

This huge tent is obviously a tunnel-type design. It is officially for 6 people, but you have 3 sleeping rooms, one enormous living room, and a large porch. So the total area measures 301 ft² (28 m²). If necessary, this tent can easily accommodate 12 people. So this is one of the reasons for having it in the list.

But this is an air beam tent, it is supported with 5 inflatable beams. The porch is with a huge zippered door, so it is just like an additional floorless room. Here you can use your camping chairs without thinking about the floor, and you can also use this space for cooking. The bedrooms are with their BlackOut Bedroom technology that blocks up to 99% of daylight.

As for the materials, the shell is a polyester with PU coating and 4500 mm waterproof rating, and fire retardant. The floor is a polyethylene.

The weight is 84.7 lb (38.4 kg), but the carry bag is with wheels, and the packed size is 30.7 x 22.8 x 20.9 inches (78 x 58 x 53 cm). The peak height is 84.6 inches (215 cm), so you have a stand up height practically everywhere in the tent. I have included this tent also in my list of Coleman air tents and also in Coleman 4 room tents.

This tent has much more, please see the video:

What I like:

  • The rooms.
  • Ease of use.
  • Protection level.
  • Solid windows.

What I dislike:

  • The price.
  • The weight.
  • The packed size.

Final thoughts

So this was my selection of Coleman 6 person camping tents, all very different and impossible to compare. But each of them has some specific set of useful features.

If you are not sure how/what to choose, here are some tips. If this is about ease of use, go for the instant setup design. Note also that even the largest air tents can be easily pitched by one person. One such example is in the list, but it is heavy and bulky.

But if you are concerned about space in the car, it is best to go for a simple dome tent, you have some options here. So make your list of priorities and then check the parameters of the tents in the list.

Still not sure what the best option is? Check in the category Outdoor Shelters here in the site, you will find something for sure.
