Best Rated Coleman Sleeping Bags for Adults

Here you have my short selection of the best rated Coleman sleeping bags for adults, some with completely unique features, and all very affordable, easy to maintain and to clean.

Coleman as a brand is globally known for its camping sleeping bags, and the stress here is on the word ‘camping’. In fact, it is hard to find any of their sleeping bags that would be appropriate for the trail. So what they build are the bags with the following main features:

• Reliable but bulky and heavy sleeping bags for car camping.
• Budget friendly and affordable sleeping bags for people on a budget, and for families.

It is hard to find a brand that would match the popularity of Coleman’s sleeping bags. Perhaps only Teton Sports comes close to it. This is why I have added Coleman in my list of best brands for sleeping bags.

My list of the best Coleman sleeping bags for adults

So here is my list, the bags are ordered by weight from lighter to heavier:

 

I have focused on the versatility, and hopefully you will realize that all of these sleeping bags are very different. Some of them have been around for many years, but some are new.

1. Coleman OneSource Heated Sleeping Bag

This bag is not so typical for Coleman but this is something special as you realize from the name. It comes with a bonus Coleman’s 4800 mAh lithium-ion battery, so you can use it with this bag or with many of their other products.

You have two heating pads designed for the feet zone and for the the upper part, and you can have the following heating options:

• 2 Hours on high (107 F, 42 C).
• 2.5 Hours on medium (103 F, 39 C).
• 4 Hours on low (96 F, 36 C).
• 3 Hours on pulse setting (low to high).

The bag is a ripstop synthetic and the general shape is semi-rectangular. The insulation is their Coletherm insulation, and the bag is hooded. You have an offset quilt construction to avoid cold spots, plus their Thermolock draft tube to prevents heat loss through the zipper. The zipper is their ZipPlow design. The bag is machine washable.

The weight is 3.85 lb (1.75 kg), and the bag fits users up to 6 ft 2 in (188 cm). The official temperature rating is 32 F (0 C), so this is a 3-season bag. The packed size (L x D) is 16.5 x 10.25 inches (42 x 26 cm).

What I like:

2. Coleman Big Basin 15 Big and Tall Adult Sleeping Bag

The dimensions of this sleeping bag are enormous, it measures 92 x 39 inches (233 x 99 cm). This length includes its hood as well. Officially it is for people up to 6 ft 6 in (198 cm) tall. The temperature rating is in the name, i.e., it is 15 F (-9 C). In view of this, it can be described as a true 3-season bag.

The bag is synthetic, with a durable ripstop-reinforced polyester shell and a fleece-lined footbox for extra warmth and comfort. The insulating material is what they call the Coletherm hollow polyester. Note that it is machine-washable.

The shape is rectangular and you have an offset quilt construction to prevent cold spots. It comes with their usual ZipPlow zipper design. The bag weighs 7.98 lb (3.6 kg) and its packed size is 15 x 10.25 x 10.25 inches (38 x 26 x 26 cm).

What I like:

3. Coleman Dunnock Cold Weather Adult Sleeping Bag

This bag is long and wide, its measures are (L x W) 81 x 39 inches (206 x 99 cm). The best part here is its fabric, you have a pleasant cotton and flannel fabric and a synthetic insulation. They apply here what they call the Fiberlock Construction that prevents insulation from shifting.

You also have the Thermolock System, a baffle along the zipper to reduce heat loss through it. This bag is also machine washable. Its official temperature rating is 20 – 40 F (-7 to 4 C). So I would not say it is for really cold weather, this is just a very good 3-season sleeping bag.

The weight is 7.9 lb (3.6 kg), and its packed size (L x D) is 20 x 11 inches (51 x 28 cm). You will want to know that it is very affordable.

4. Coleman Tandem 3-in-1 45 Big and Tall Double Adult Sleeping Bag

Coleman is not best known for its double-wide sleeping bags, but they have them of course. The word Tandem in the name of the bag presented here means just that, so this is a sleeping bag for two adults.

They also describe it as 3-in-1. This is because you have a large double size sleeping bag when needed, its dimensions are 81 x 66 inches (206 x 168 cm). But the two halves can be unzipped and you can use them as two separate solo sleeping bags of the same length but half the width. Obviously, you can use the two halves as blankets as well, so it would be appropriate to describe it as 5-in-1.

The insulation here is synthetic as typical for Coleman, and this they call the Coletherm hollow polyester fibers, with the official temperature rating of 45 F (7 C). If you add a few degrees just to be sure, this would make it a sleeping bag for the warmer part of the year, say 2 seasons or a bit more.

The bag comes with a 2-way patented ZipPlow system that keeps the zipper separated from the fabric to prevent snags. The picture above shows what they call the ComfortCuff warm and cozy fabric that is in contact with your face. But this is not all, you also have a built-in detachable sheet for layering.

The bag also includes what they call the Roll Control design, patented Quick Cord no-tie closure, and stuff sack. This sleeping bag is machine washable, but bear in mind its packed size (L x D) 17.7 x 13.4 inches (45 x 34 cm). It weighs 9.5 pounds (4.3 kg). It is added also to my list of best double camping sleeping bags for adults.

5. Coleman All-Weather Multi-Layer Sleeping Bag

The Coleman All-Weather Multi-Layer Sleeping Bag is very heavy, it weighs 12.55 lb (5.7 kg). So it is heavier that the double wide bag presented above. But wait to see all its features and you will realize that there are some good reasons behind such a weight.

In fact, you have no less than 3 sleeping bags one in another. So imagine, you can use them together as a multi-layer bag as its name suggests, and you can use them separately, or combine two of them together. The inner bag is a fleece material, and the other two are with some synthetic insulation. All of them are machine washable.

But there is more. Each of them can be fully unzipped and you can use them as blankets. This again means together, separately, or combined. In other words, you have 14 possible combinations. Now you understand why I simply had to include this sleeping bag here.

So this is a sleeping bag for all weather conditions and all seasons. The dimensions are 79 x 36 inches (201 x 91 cm), and the packed size (L x D) is 16 x 21 inches (41 x 53 cm). There is no hood here. This bag is also in my list of best multi layered sleeping bags.

Final thoughts

So this was my selection of Coleman sleeping bags for adults, and I hope you are able to find one for you. There are differences in the weight but note that the lightest of them is a mummy shape so this means less space and comfort if you feel claustrophobic in sleeping bags.
