There are many padded chairs on the market and they are built in a variety of styles. So I did my best to present here the best representatives of various types. In other words, the focus here is on versatility and on combinations of great features.

Note also that these are the products from the best-known brands in the outdoor industry. The chairs have been around for some time already, tried and tested by many users, so you know what you are buying.

1. EARTH Ultimate 4 Position Outdoor Chair

As mentioned above, this list is populated with padded chairs that combine some really useful features. So here you have a chair that combines them many.

But first about the padding as the main feature of this text. You have it all over the seat and its incredibly high backrest. Note also that the headrest is particularly nicely designed.

If you want an exceptionally high backrest chair, this is it, the overall dimensions are (W x D x H) 25 x 16 x 47 inches (64 x 41 x 119 cm). So you will not easily find a chair that is better suited for very tall users. The seat height is quite moderate, it is 18 inches (46 cm) above the ground. The width of the seat is around 21 inches (53 cm).

From the pictures, you also realize that this is a recliner chair and it offers 4 different back positions. But this is not all, you also have adjustable front legs. They can be extended up to 4 inches (10 cm), and the feet are huge and pivoting.

Other features include solid armrests so it is easy to get in and out of the chair, cup holders, and it also has a zippered storage pouch.

2. Rio Gear Outdoor Foldable Hammock Lounger

This chair is completely unique here in the list, but there are a few similar chairs of this type on the market. Perhaps you realize that this is a swing folding chair or you can call it a hammock chair. It hangs attached to the two side poles.

It is here because of its padding which is really nicely done. It propagates all the way from the seat through the backrest and to the top where you have a great head pillow. You also have solid and padded armrests.

The frame is based on 6 feet so the weight is distributed and you can use this chair almost everywhere, it will not easily sink in the ground. This is all strong powder-coated steel. The fabric is polyester and the mentioned padding is some foam.

A few numbers you might want to have:

3. VINGLI Professional Fishing Chair

You realize from the picture that this chair is nicely padded all over the seat. The backrest is high so you have a pleasantly padded headrest as well. The armrests are solid and this makes it easy to get in and out.

This chair is full of great features. The seat is wide and it measures 26 inches (66 cm). This is why it is included also in my list of extra wide seat outdoor chairs. This is also a reclining chair and you have 180 degrees recline so it can be set with a completely flat backrest.

Yet another useful feature that is a bit visible in the picture is that you have pivoting feet and adjustable legs. This means that you can nicely level this chair no matter where you use it. The outdoor ground is rarely flat and having legs that can be adjusted independently really helps.

As for the materials, the frame is high-quality corrosion-resistant steel, and the fabric is 600D waterproof Oxford, it is removable and washable. The weight capacity is 300 lb (136 kg).

The chair weighs 15 lb (6.8 kg), and its packed size is 28 x 25 x 10 inches (72 x 65 x 26 cm). Note also that it is in my list of best outdoor recliner chairs.

4. EVER ADVANCED Oversize XL Zero Gravity Recliner

This incredible construction has more features than any other chair here in the list. As you realize this is what is usually described as zero-gravity chair, and this means a design for deep relaxation. It is suitable for people who suffer from back pain and it helps to improve circulation in the legs in general.

This is a strong steel construction with 350 lb (159 kg) official capacity. You have an adjustable padded headrest and lumbar support. What you see in the front area is an adjustable footrest. But this is also a reclining chair, and it is here because of its padding that extends all the way from the footrest to the headrest.

The chair is with solid and ergonomic armrest covered by some plastic so you do not touch metal. You also have a folding side table. Note also an extra detail that adds to comfort, the fabric attaches to the frame through a bungee-type connection. This is always the best way because the seat and the backrest adjust to your body shape and movement.

The headrest pillow measures 18 x 7 inches (46 x 18 cm). The chair weighs 19.8 lb (9 kg) and its dimensions (W x L x H) are 29.5 x 32 x 45 inches (75 x 81 x 114 cm). Note that it is large when folded, the dimensions are 38.5 x 31 x 7 inches (98 x 79 x 18 cm).

5. Bushtec Adventure Oversized Camping Chair Charlie 440

This Oversized Camping Chair Charlie 440 is generously padded, and its backrest is high so you have a padded headrest as well. A top zippered pocket is available so you can add some pillow inside or just pieces of clothing and have more padding for the head.

It is a folding type, one of those that fold like an umbrella into a long but thin tube, so the packed size is 42 x 9 x 8 inches (107 x 23 x 20 cm). The armrests are soft here, but you have solid sections on the front.

You have a top-quality outdoor item and its capacity is 440 pounds (200 kg). This explains the number 440 in its name. The chair comes with a nicely designed carry bag. There are cup holders integrated into its armrests.

Regarding the materials, the fabric is a 600D polyester canvas, and the metal parts are a combination of a coated aluminum and steel. The tubes are 16 mm, 19 mm, and 20 mm in diameter.

You also have huge dimensions that correspond to such a capacity, so the chair can accommodate big users. It measures 42 x 38 x 22 inches (107 x 96 x 56 cm). It is very suitable for tall people. Note that the chair is quite heavy, it weighs 18 lb (8.16 kg).

6. Guide Gear Oversized Club Camp Chair

Here you have an incredibly comfortable and pleasant folding camping chair, and you will want to know that they build it in several different color combinations.

You cannot see it, but the chair is with solid armrests, and you realize they are covered with the same padding as the rest of the chair. So getting in and out is easy, but observe that the seat is a bit low, it is 17.7 inches (45 cm) above the ground.

You will want to know that the capacity of this Guide Gear Oversized Club Camp Chair is impressive 500 lb (227 kg). This should be more than enough even for the heaviest users. It is included in my list of outdoor chairs for heavy people.

The picture above reveals its large storage pouch combined with a cup holder. Dimensions of the chair are (W x D x H) 34 x 25 x 37 inches (86 x 64 x 94 cm).

As for materials, the fabric is a very durable 600D polyurethane-coated polyester. You will want to know that all that you see above is removable and washable. The frame is steel, and it includes many support bars for extra stability. In view of such a strong construction and its capacity, the chair is only moderately heavy, it weighs 13.12 lb (6 kg). A carry bag is included.

7. Guide Gear Oversized XXL Rocking Camp Chair

The letters XXL in the name of this chair describe the fact that you have a huge chair and it is completely padded. The overall dimensions are 33 x 33 x 44 inches (84 x 84 x 112 cm). The seat is 25 inches (64 cm) wide between its solid armrests. This is why it is also in my list of extra-wide seat outdoor chairs.

Note also that for such a large chair designed for big users you have an appropriate 600 lb (272 kg) capacity. But you see also that this is a rocking chair and it is in my list of best rocking camping chairs.

The mentioned height implies that you have a headrest as well. The chair is a folding type, but this is one of those that remain large in two dimensions when folded, but it becomes thin. The folded dimensions are 43 x 33 x 7 inches (109 x 84 x 18 cm).

The chair is not very light, it weighs 17.5 lb (7.9 kg) but you have seen its size. On the other hand, the frame is a very strong powder-coated steel stricture, and there are also two rocking rails, so the weight is justified.

8. ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Camping Chair

The padding in this ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Camping Chair is not its best feature. But indeed the chair is padded all over the seat and the backrest. However, this is one of the most impressive chairs on the market, and I could not miss adding it here.

The capacity of this chair is simply incredible 800 lb (363 kg). It has been around for several years already and it is very popular and this capacity is real. So you have a very strong steel construction suitable for the heaviest users. The picture above reveals what makes it so strong, it has 8 support bars plus 4 vertical legs.

This is one of the chairs that fold like an umbrella so the packed size when in its carry bag is (L x D) 41 x 7 inches (104 x 18 cm). The overall dimensions are (W x D x H) 38 x 20 x 38 inches (96 x 51 x 96 cm), and the seat height is 18 inches (46 cm). The weight is very reasonable when you see all its features, it weighs 12.5 lb (5.7 kg).

You have adjustable armrests with straps on the back where you can regulate their position. There are several storage elements and those include cup holders on both sides, storage pouches on both sides, and a large mesh pocket on the back. The fabric is 600D polyester, and you have a carry bag included.

Final thoughts

So this was my selection of the best padded camping chairs currently available on the market. As already mentioned, they are all very different and there is no way to suggest one that would be the best for everybody.

But if you are still not sure what to choose, note that there are differences in the weight and in the packed size. The latter may be more important. Namely, these are all car camping chairs and you would not carry them long distances in any case. But some of them fold in such a way that they remain large in two dimensions. Though they become thin and can indeed fit in narrow spaces.

Editor’s Choice Chair

The chair shown below combines quite a number of features which I see as important. You have seen them already, but here to stress again that it is nicely padded and the backrest is exceptionally high. The front legs are adjustable and the side legs are a U-shaped bar, so the chair will not easily sink in the ground. It is also a recliner.
