Best Collapsible Camping Chairs

Here you have my selection of the best collapsible camping chairs, easy to use, lightweight, compact, and reliable, from globally-known outdoor brands.

The focus of this text is on collapsible camp chairs and this implies a few important features that include some good and some less good:

• These chairs need assembly. However, this is always an easy task and it is done without any extra tool.
• They are very compact when packed. This is certainly a good feature as they will not take much space in the car trunk.
• The small packed size is not the main feature here. If this is the most important for you, check my list of best compact camping chairs. I have selected chairs that are comfortable. This implies a large enough and high seat, a high backrest and a headrest, and sometimes even armrests, etc.
• They are usually light. This is always convenient, but you would use them as camping items so the weight is of secondary importance. But indeed, some are light enough to be carried in the backpack.

1. NEMO Stargaze Recliner Luxury Chair

Here you have a shock-corded frame and the seat attached to it, so this is a collapsible swinging chair that includes also reclining features. This is why it is also in my list of best reclining camping chairs.

The chair is with solid and padded armrests, and with a very high backrest that ends up with a padded headrest. The headrest is adjustable, you have Velcro tabs to place it where you want it.

The chair is light, it weighs 6 lb 5 oz (2.86 kg) and its capacity is 300 lb (136 kg). The overall dimensions are (W x D x H) 25 x 36 x 45 inches (65 x 92 x 116 cm). The seat height is a bit low, you have 12 inches (30 cm) clearance.

As for the materials, you have aircraft-grade aluminum. The feet are a thermo-rubber material that sticks to any surface. The fabric is a non-absorbent monofilament mesh. The chair is available in at least 6 different colors.

Other features include a no-spill cupholder for beverages, and a stash pocket for books or similar stuff. The chair comes with NEMO’s lifetime warranty.

2. Eagles Nest Outfitters Lounger DL Camping Chair

This chair has some truly unique features, and I would start with its legs. You can use them as in the picture, but you can also fold them. So you have two different lengths for the legs, and this is 10 and 3 inches.

Yet another great feature that is visible in the picture is its massive and pleasant backrest with a headrest where you have padding. Note also that the sides are designed so that you have soft armrests.

The chair is collapsible, but you have a shock-corded frame and the seat attaches to it easily. There is also a carry bag included, and you have a storage pouch on the side.

A few numbers that you might want to see. So the weight is 74 oz (2.1 kg), and the capacity is 250 lb (113 kg). The overall dimensions are (W x D x H) 32 x x 23 x 37/30 inches (81 x 58 cm x 94/76 cm), the two heights are for the mentioned two positions of its legs. The packed size is (L x D) 23 x 7 inches (58 x 18 cm).

The frame is a 6061 anodized aluminum alloy, and the fabric is a very durable 210D ripstop nylon.

3. Big Agnes Big Six Armchair

As you realize from the name, this is an armchair so you have soft armrests and they are with integrated cup or bottle holders. It also offers a very good backrest and a headrest.

Note also that the seat is 20 inches (51 cm) above the ground and this makes it suitable for taller users, and also for elderly people because it is easy to get in and out.

To continue with numbers. The weight is 3 lb 14 oz (1.76 kg), and its packed size is 22 x 6 x 5 inches (56 x 15 x 13 cm). So this is a portable outdoor chair and you can transport it even on a bicycle. The weight capacity is 300 lb (136 kg) and the overall dimensions are 40 x 26 x 24 inches (102 x 66 x 61 cm).

Observe also that the chair is built without plastic connectors. This is an aircraft-grade aluminum frame and the fabric is a high-tenacity Robic nylon 100D with a 300D polyester rip-stop for extra tear strength. If you dislike the color in the picture, no worry they have it in several colors. It comes with a nicely designed carry bag.

4. Big Agnes Mica Basin Armchair

This Big Agnes Mica Basin Armchair is collapsible and it offers soft armrests. It is light enough to be carried in the pack, the weight is 2 lb 15 oz (1.33 kg). The packed size is 18 x 5 x 4 inches (46 x 13 x 10 cm) so the packed volume is around 6 liters. This is why it is included also in my list of best compact camping chairs.

Being collapsible, it needs a simple assembly but this is the same as in the other chairs here in the list, just a shock-corded frame plus a sling that attaches to it. Note that the frame is without plastic hub elements. Note that the feet are small and with plastic caps so this is not the best feature for soft ground.

The capacity is 300 lb (136 kg) and its overall dimensions are (H x W x D) 29 x 31 x 19.5 inches (74 x 79 x 50 cm).

What I like:

5. KLYMIT Timberline Camp Chair

This KLYMIT Timberline Camp Chair is truly lightweight, it weighs only 2.75 lb (1.25 kg). Its packed size is 17 x 5 x 5 inches (43 x 12.7 x 12.7 cm), so you can transport it in any way you want, and it is small and light enough even to be carried in the backpack.

The official capacity is 225 lb (102 kg) so it is a bit modest but this is still good enough for most of the potential users. The overall dimensions are (W x D x H) 22 x 20.5 x 35.5 inches (55.8 x 52 x 90 cm).

From the picture you realize that it has a very high backrest and also a headrest, who would say for such a light chair. The carry bag is also shown in the picture.

The frame is some aluminum alloy and all the pieces are shock-corded tubes. So the chair is easy to use, you simply attach the fabric on its frame with all pre-attached segments.

6. Helinox Chair Two

There are several good reasons for having this Helinox Chair Two in the list. The chair is ultralight and nicely packable. In numbers, this means 2 lb 6 oz (1.05 kg) of weight and 18 x 5 inches (46 x 13 cm) packed size (L x D).

The overall dimensions are (H x W x D) 33 x 21.5 x 25.5 (84 x 55 x 65 cm). From the picture you realize that it offers a great backrest and headrest. But note also that you have an incredible 5-year warranty with this chair. This is not surprising when you know that here you have a durable DAC aluminum construction. The chair is available in several different colors.

But there is more. They have built rocking bars that can be added here so you can have a rocker chair. In fact, they sell it under the name Helinox Chair Two Rocker with such bars included.

Final thoughts

So this was my selection of the best collapsible camping chairs, with great brands behind each of the chairs in the list. As you have seen, they are light and compact, but you still have some really useful extra features. When possible (better to say when I am able to decide), I put forward my favorite, so this time it is the chair presented below.
