There are still many classic hammocks around, they are popular as always and with all the good reasons. There is no doubt they will remain on the market forever. But as you know, such classic hammocks need trees or any other firm object so that you can attach them, and you do not have them always around. This is where these modern freestanding hammocks may help.

So I have prepared a collection of very interesting folding hammocks in a variety of styles. They are all self-supporting and freestanding and you can use them anywhere.

You will realize that I have done my best to include very different designs, and this was on purpose, so there should be something for everybody.

This Abba Patio Outdoor Canopy Cover Hanging Swing Hammock with Mosquito Net and Stand is a whole system that includes several elements like:

• A large bed with spreader bars and with curved side rails. It has an integrated headrest. This is a swinging design as you realize from the picture, it is attached by chains to the frame above.
• A sunhsade.
• A full size insect protection mesh.

So this is a freestanding and incredibly comfortable collapsible structure. The frame is a strong powder-coated rust-resistant steel with thick tubes that measure 42 mm in the diameter and their thickness is 1.3 mm. Note that the structure has a full frame with tubes on the ground. So it will not sink in the soft ground and you can use it anywhere.

The bed is a hybrid of a cot and a hammock. As mentioned it has a full frame, but its side poles are curved. It swings like a hammock, but it has bars on both sides to make it wide like a cot.

Both the mosquito net and the sunshade are removable. Here are some numbers. The weight is 94.8 lb (43 kg), so this is a lot, but this structure also offers a lot. The capacity is 300 lb (136 kg). The overall dimensions are (L x W x H) 7.6 x 4.6 x 6.7 ft (232 x 140 x 204 cm).

The bed size is 6.5 x 3.7 ft (198 x 113 cm), and the packed size of the whole set is 80.31 x 14.96 x 7.87 inches (204 x 38 x 20 cm).

As you see from the picture, here you have a very nicely designed canopy, it is useful to have it when you use the bed outside. But you can also remove it when not needed. There are telescopic poles for the canopy, they are in the frame so you simply pull them out to attach the canopy.

This is a nicely designed collapsible structure that needs a simple assembly. This practically only means adding the bed on the frame which you expand before use.

Note that the bed is with spreader bars, so there is no swing and sway here, the bed is almost like a cot. You have several bonuses included, there is a pillow plus a storage mesh shelf underneath the bed. Particularly nicely designed are the feet with those wide caps.

The weight is substantial, this item weighs 33 lb (15 kg). The official capacity is 250 lb (113 kg), and its overall dimensions are (L x W x H) 92.5 x 26.3 x 39.76 inches (235 x 67 x 101 cm) without the canopy. The folded dimensions are 47.1 x 10.1 x 6.3 inches (120 x 26 x 16 cm). The frame is a powder-coated steel and the fabric is a strong and durable 600D polyester.

3. Kijaro All in One Portable Hammock with Detachable 180 Degree Rotating Canopy

This product is very close to classic hammocks but it offers far more. So it is a swing structure but with the bed that has spreaders to make the area larger, note that they are far from the attachment points as you realize from the picture.

They describe it as portable, but note that the weight is 29.7 lb (13.5 kg), so you would not want to carry it long distances. The folded size is 42 x 10 x 10 inches (107 x 25 x 25 cm).

To continue with numbers which you might want to see. The capacity is 250 lb (113 kg) and the dimensions are 8.1 x 2.3 ft (247 x 70 cm).

The frame is folding, and you have several true bonuses. One of them is the rotating canopy with 180 degrees rotation, then you also have a pillow, a cooler, cup holders and a shelf for small items. The feet are not its greatest feature.

4. Republic of Durable Goods Mock ONE

This is a portable folding hammock, it is very light and very compact when folded. The weight is 14.5 lb (6.6 kg), and the folded size is 33 x 11 x 6 inches (84 x 28 x 15 cm).

The pictures above show it when unfolded and when folded. So the overall size is (L x W x H) 67 x 25 x 31 inches (170 x 63.5 x 79 cm). It is fully freestanding and self-supporting, and note that the area needed for its feet is only 36 x 24 inches (91 x 61 cm).

It comes with an adjustable sunshade that attaches on the two sides and you then expand it. You can rotate it to adjust the shade. They claim it offers UPF 50+ rated shade.

There is also a convenient storage underneath the bed. The frame is steel and the official setup time is only 60 seconds. Note that there are spreader bars here so the ends of the bed are fixed.

5. Naturehike Outdoor Folding Hammock

The manufacturer describes this product as an anti-rollover design. This in practice means that its four corners are attached to four poles. So it may look more like a cot than a hammock. But when you are in bed, it is curved like a hammock, yet because of the attached ends its width is the same everywhere.

This cot/hammock hybrid is ultralight and ultra compact. So see the numbers, the weight is incredible 7.9 lb (3.58 kg), and the packed size is (L x D) 23.6 x 7.1 inches (60 x 18 cm). Such an item you can carry attached to a backpack, and you can easily transport it on a bicycle. So from this you can better understand its possible best use and versatility.

The frame is a 7075 aluminum alloy, flexible but strong. It includes two shock-corded hubbed legs parts, and two central connecting poles, each of them with 2 separate tubes.

The fabric is a quality and high-stretch polyester oxford cloth. It is abrasion-resistant and tear-resistant. It is also breathable and dirt-resistant.

The capacity is 265 lb (120 kg) and the overall dimensions (L x W x H) are 80.7 x 27.6 x 29.1 inches (205 x 70 x 74 cm).

There are big differences in their weight, packed size, and overall features. You can choose between compact backpack portable and those that are for car camping only.
