If you are a tall person and need a tent for the trail, you will want to check this list of very long best backpacking tents for tall people from the best-known brands in this industry.
Backpacking tents are ultralight and this is normal to expect from a piece of gear that you are supposed to carry on your back. Most of them are quite long and suitable for the majority of users. But as you know, a sleeping bag takes space and it is not great that it touches the walls of the tent as this is so frequent in the feet area. It can become wet and heavy, and it may lose its insulation capacity.
It is important to keep your sleeping bag dry. This holds in particular for down-fill sleeping bags that are usually used on the trail because of their excellent weight. This can be an issue even if you are a shorter person. So imagine how this is for very tall people.
The lower limit of the length for all tents here in the list is 90 inches 229 cm. So they are of this length or longer. The longest tent here measures 96 inches (244 cm). This is a very exclusive list and there are not so many tents on the market with such a length.
Regarding the official capacity, you have them here in the range of 1 – 4 person. So this should be got enough for most of the potential users and backpacking groups.

1. ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 1 Person Tent

This is a solo tent but it is the smallest in the series, just to know, they have them more. It is here because of its length that measures 90 inches (229 cm). This is one of the best-known tents of this brand.
The tent is supported by two aluminum poles 8.5 mm diameter and this is a 7000 aluminum alloy series. You have one door and one vestibule under its full-coverage fly. The fabric is a durable 75D 185T polyester with a 1500 mm coating on the fly and a 2000 mm coating on the floor. They claim it resists UV damage. All seams are factory-taped.
Here are a few more numbers. The weight is 4 lb 4 oz (1.93 kg), the inner area is 20 square feet (1.86 m²) and the vestibule area is 10 square feet (0.93 m²). The peak height is 3 feet (91 cm) and the packed size is 17.5 x 6 inches (44 x 15 cm).
What I like:
- Durable fabric.
- Quality poles
- Great price.
What I dislike:
- Heavy.
- A bit bulky.
2. Marmot Tungsten UL 3P Backpacking Tent

This is a 3-person tent and its floor dimensions are 90 x 66 inches (229 x 168 cm). So now you understand why it is here. Note that this is a series of 4 tents Tungsten UL 1, 2, 3, and 4 tents, but only this and Tungsten UL 4 can be described as ultra-long tents.
The letters UL describe the fact that these are ultralight tents. Here are a few numbers. The weight of this Tungsten UL 3 tent is 4 lb 5.5 oz (1.97 kg), the floor area is 41.5 ft² (3.8 m²), and the two vestibules protect 10.6 ft² + 7.8 ft² (1.71 m²) of space. The packed size is (L x D) 22 x 8 inches (56 x 20.3 cm).
The tent is with two vestibules and with a full-coverage fly. The poles are top quality DAC Pressfit 9 mm diameter poles and they are pre-bent in the lower sections. This creates a bit more volume. The frame is with two main X-crossed poles plus two ridge poles that lift side walls up and make them vertical.
On the floor, you have a 30D 100% nylon with a 2000 mm waterproof rating, and the canopy is a 15D 100% nylon No-See-Um mesh. The fly is built from a 20D 100% polyester with Sil/PU coating with a 1200 mm rating. Note that the tent is nicely vented with its two vents. As mentioned above, if this tent is small for your group, they have an even longer 4-person version.
What I like:
- Great frame.
- Ventilation.
- Length.
What I dislike:
- Very expensive.
3. Nemo Dagger 3 Person Tent

The floor dimensions of this tent are 90 x 70 inches (229 x 177 cm), so this is impressive for an ultralight backpacking tent that weighs only 4 lb 4 oz (1.93 kg). The inner floor area is 43 ft² (4 m²) and there are two vestibules that add 23 ft² (2.1 m²).
The tent is quite low with its peak height of 42 inches (107 cm), but this is normal for such a type. The packed size is (L x D) 19.5 x 6.5 inches (50 x 17 cm). You have poles that are a hubbed design with a double-Y profile, plus a cross pole that lifts the sides up. This is a high-quality DAC 9.0 and 9.6 mm Featherlite NSL type.
The fabric is thin so you have a 30D PU nylon ripstop floor with a 3000 mm waterproof rating, it is bathtub-style. The fly is a 15D Sil-PU nylon ripstop with 1200 mm rating.
The stuff sack is uniquely designed with innovative “dual-stage” split components of the tent so that they can be shared and carried separately by the users.
What I like:
- Great stuff sack design.
- Great ventilation.
What I dislike:
- The price.
4. Winterial Single Person Tent

This Winterial Single Person Tent is an incredibly affordable and very popular bivy-type 3-season shelter with a full-coverage fly. It has been on the market for a number of years and it is very popular.
The canopy is supported by two simple aluminum loop poles with pre-bent segments. The tent is here because of its length which is quite impressive 90 inches (229 cm). You have around 2 square meters of floor area.
The weight of the tent is 3.3 lb (1.5 kg) so it is not ultralight, but you have no less than 14 heavy-duty stakes in the package. Its packed size is 18 x 4.5 x 4 inches (46 x 11 x 10 cm).
What I like:
- Large floor.
- Fly vent.
What I dislike:
- No info about waterproof rating.
5. Alps Mountaineering Mystique 1 Tent

This Alps Mountaineering Mystique 1 Tent is one out of three tents in this series, and this is the smallest. I would start with the fact that the tent is heavy but it offers far more (per person) than any other tent here in the list. This is a solo tent, but you have two doors and two vestibules. Clearly, you can keep one closed and use it as a storage space.
But let’s see the numbers. The weight is 4 lb 6 oz (1.98 kg) and the inner area is 21 ft² (1.95 m²). Each of the two vestibules adds 0.88 square meters of protected space. The peak height is 3 ft (91 cm), and the packed size is 16 x 6 inches (41 x 15 cm). The most important for this text is its length which is 94.1 inches (239 cm).
The poles are a quality 7000 series aluminum. The fly is very durable 75D 185T polyester with a 1500 mm coating and the floor is the same material but with a 3000 mm coating. Note that the fly has a vent on it.
What I like:
- 2 Doors
- 2 Vestibules.
- Lots of space.
- Durable materials.
- Incredible price.
What I dislike:
- Heavy.
6. Snugpak Ionosphere 1 Person Tent

The Snugpak Ionosphere 1 is a true two-layer 3-season tent. it is here because of its enormous length, the base measures (L x W) 94 x 44 inches (239 x 112 cm). The weight is 3.35 lb (1520 g) and its peak height is 27.6 inches (70 cm).
This is a bivy-type tent so it is rather low, but you have enough space for you and your pack. You have a mesh canopy and a full-coverage fly. The mesh is a lightweight 190T polyester 50D No-See-Um type. The floor is a 190T nylon with a 5000 mm waterproof PU coating. The fly is also a very durable 210T ripstop with a 5000 mm waterproof PU coating. All seams are taped.
What I like:
- Impressive waterproof rating.
- The length.
- Great price.
What I dislike:
- No vents.
- Small door.
7. Eureka Solitaire Bivy Tent

You will not find many tents on the market that can match the length of this Eureka Solitaire Bivy Tent. Its base measures 96 x 32 inches (244 x 81 cm). So this is a roomy structure, but note that this is a bivy tent and this means very low and without vestibules. So the peak height is 28 inches (71 cm).
The tent weighs 2 lb 19 oz (1.45 kg), and this includes tent with the fly, poles, stakes, and 3 stuff sacks. But its minimum weight is 2 lb 10 oz (1.19 kg). The packed size is 17.5 x 4 inches (44 x 10 cm).
You have 6.3 mm fiberglass poles and the fabric on the floor and on the fly is 75D 185T StormShield polyester taffeta. The canopy is a 40D no-see-um mesh. Seams are taped and the waterproofness rating is 1200 mm. You have one door and 2 storage pouches inside.
What I like:
- Incredibly long.
- Compact.
- Roomy.
What I dislike:
- Not ultralight but see the length.
- Low.
Final thoughts
So this was my list with very long backpacking tents for tall people, I do not think you will find many alternatives on the market. Most of these tents are for solo use, but as mentioned above, some are just representatives of series so follow the links and see more if you need tents for several people.
Only a couple of the tents here can be described as ultralight, and those are tents for several people. The solo tents from these same series are normally shorter and this is why they are not presented here. So as you realize, extra length implies more materials and this adds extra weight. I can only say that I have sympathy for very tall users who are forced to carry such extra weight.
But if you are in a group of a few friends or with your partner, go for a 3-person tent or a 2-person tent and share the weight. Some of them can be as light as one long solo tent.
I normally put forward an Editor Choice product, but here this makes no much sense in view of the diversity of the tents presented here. You can always get in touch with me and ask questions, there is a comment box below.
These tents are a match for these extra long sleeping pads for tall people, you will need one. Please check also my list of best backpacking quilts and compact backpacking sleeping pads, you will need them in the trail. Thank you for reading and have a nice day.
