Alps Mountaineering Camping Chairs

We review several Alps Mountaineering camping chairs which come in a variety of styles and sizes and are both reliable and affordable.

The Alps Mountaineering company is known for durability of their outdoor products, and their outdoor chairs are not exception. They make them for practically any outdoor activity. Some of their chairs are suitable for the heaviest possible users, and you will see some examples here.

They have many chairs on the market, and in this text I have prepared for you a short selection of very different designs. So hopefully, you will be able to find something suitable for you.

My list of Alps Mountaineering camp chairs

The chairs in the list below are ordered by the capacity, from lower to higher:

1. ALPS Mountaineering Camber Chair

This chair has been on the market for several years already. So this is an item that has been tested by many users and its rating is generally very high.

It is very strong with its powder-coated steel frame, just see those numerous support bars. Its bucket type seat fabric is a 420D polyester. They have it in at least two different colors.

The chair folds and unfolds easily so there is no assembly. It folds like an umbrella so the folded size is (L x D) 40 x 6.5 inches (102 x 17 cm). It is very affordable, and it comes with a carry bag included.

Here are a few more numbers. The weight is very good, it weighs only 7 lb 11 oz (3.49 kg), and its official capacity is 300 lb (136 kg). The dimensions (W x D x H) are 24 x 29 x 32.5 inches (61 x 74 x 83 cm). The seat size is (L x D) 40 x 6.5 inches (102 x 17 cm).

2. ALPS Mountaineering Steel Leisure Chair

They build this chair in at least six different colors. But this is not the reason for having it in the list here. The chair is very easy to use, elegant, and it folds like an umbrella. So its packed size is (L x D) 45 x 7 inches (114 x 18 cm).

The frame is a powder-coated steel and the fabric is 600D polyester. You also have pleasant solid armrests so it is easy to get in and out of the chair. The capacity is 300 lb (136 kg).

Here are a few more numbers that you might need. The weight is 13 lb (5.9 kg), and the overall dimensions (W x D x H) are 27 x 16 x 38 inches (69 x 41 x 97 cm). The backrest is high so shorter users may have a headrest as well. The seat size is (W x D) 22 x 16 inches (56 x 41 cm), and its height is (front/back) 20/16 inches (51/41 cm).

What I like:

What I dislike:

3. ALPS Mountaineering Low Rocker Chair

As you realize, this is a rocker chair and a very easy to use construction that folds to (L x D) 34 x 10 inches (86 x 25 cm). It has pins on each of its rocking rails, so all you have to do is to unpin them and fold the chair. After that you can store it in its included carry bag.

It has angled solid and padded armrests. The capacity is quite typical, the chair supports up to 300 lb (136 kg). It is a bit on the heavy side with its 11 lb (5 kg) but this is normal for such a type. All in all, it is best suited for places with a car access.

As for the materials, the frame is what they call the Pro-Tec powder-coated steel, and the fabric is their breathable and very suitable for summer camping TechMesh combined with a polyester taffeta. The seat height is 15 inches (38 cm), so this explains the name.

What I dislike:

4. ALPS Mountaineering Camp Chair

This chair is folding, but this is one of those that remain a bit large in two dimensions. It is easy to realize why this is so, you have solid anatomic armrests here and see also the fixed ground bars.

You have a very strong frame made of aluminum and steel, and as a result, the capacity of this chair is impressive 425 pounds (193 kg). With all these features, the chair is very suitable for heavy and/or elderly users. I have included it in my list of outdoor chairs for heavy people.

Note also that the chair is lightly padded. The fabric is a 600D polyester. The seat is not particularly high, it is at 17 inches (43 cm) above ground. There is also a cup holder visible in the picture above.

The weight is moderate, it weighs 10.5 lb (4.76 kg). The feet may look narrow, but you can see from the picture that it has those stabilizing bars very close to the ground. So even if it partly sinks in a soft ground, these bars will prevent any further sinking, and you can use this chair anywhere.

5. ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Camping Chair

This ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Camping Chair is one of the best-known and most popular camping chairs on the market. When you see its incredible capacity you realize why this is so, it is 800 lb (363 kg).

This is a strong steel construction with 8 X-crossed support bars plus 4 vertical legs. The chair is folding type, one of those that fold like an umbrella. So the packed size in its carry bag is (L x D) 41 x 7 inches (104 x 18 cm).

Its overall dimensions are (W x D x H) 38 x 20 x 38 inches (96 x 51 x 96 cm), and the seat height is moderate 18 inches (46 cm). The weight is reasonable in view of its capacity and construction, the chair weighs 12.5 lb (5.7 kg). This chair is also in my list of extra wide seat outdoor chairs.

You have a padded seat and backrest, and adjustable armrests. There are several storage elements that include cup holders on both sides, storage pouches on both sides, and a large mesh pocket on the back. The fabric is 600D polyester, and they make the chair in many different colors.

Final thoughts

So each of these Alps Mountaineering Camping Chairs has something specific that makes it different from the other chairs in the list, and this is on purpose.
